Mechanism of Injury:
The elbow is a bony hinge joint relying on most of its support from surrounding ligaments and muscle. Osteochondral injuries to the elbow affect the cartilage and the two bones of the elbow, the humerus and ulna. Causes of this injury can range from chronic overuse of the joint which would affect the ligaments and tendons surrounding the elbow or can be caused by more acute injuries where the bone becomes cracked or actually breaks off in the joint due to an impact injury.
